Monitoring and Alerting Deployment SOP
Purpose
Ensure every production service has meaningful availability, performance, capacity and backup alerts with ownership.
Decision Summary
Mandatory CSI deployment control for applicable work; client-specific implementation requires approved scope and change authorization.
Use Cases
Prometheus/Grafana/LibreNMS/Uptime Kuma/log monitoring and notification routing.
Field Notes
Monitoring without an owner, untested notification routes, alert floods, exposed metrics endpoints and storing secrets in dashboards are unacceptable.
Hardware Requirements
Monitoring server with protected storage, network reachability, notification channels, retention capacity and external checks where needed.
Backup Strategy
Preserve configuration, credentials references, certificates/keys, application data and deployment documentation according to the workload-specific RPO/RTO.
Recovery Strategy
Maintain a documented rollback and tested restoration path before production change; validate service, data, access and monitoring after recovery.
Secure Boot Notes
Secure Boot applies to monitoring hosts and should remain enabled. Agents/exporters must come from trusted sources.
Version History
v1.0 created 2026-08-04 as the baseline CSI deployment and validation procedure.
